Agriculture Ministry to link eNAM with FPOs, warehouses

The Union Agriculture Ministry is doing the job on integrating the e-National Agriculture Market (eNAM) with farmer producer organisations (FPOs) and warehouses to supply stop-to-stop connectivity for farmers.

Addressing the BusinessLine Agri Summit below on Friday, PK Swain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, said the government is doing the job on integrating eNAM with warehouses aside from FPOs.

“We are now doing the job on the integration of eNAM with warehouse receipt, so that we can consider eNAM to registered warehouses and investing can occur from the warehouse alone, without the need of getting the items to mandis. Following tte horizontal integration of FPOs with eNAM, this is another horizontal integration with warehouses. It is prepared and we are ready for a appropriate day for the start,” said Swain.

The FPO module has been through pilot testing, he extra.

Point out-clever numbers

As on date, at 222, Maharashtra has the most FPOs on eNAM, adopted by Uttar Pradesh (ninety one), Tamil Nadu (88), Rajasthan (87), Andhra Pradesh (eighty) and Gujarat (23).

“We have integrated the full system (of putting bids) with eNWR (digital Negotiable Warehouse Receipt). Less than this, eNWR will be uploaded for bidding and traders on the eNAM system can bid for it. We will also integrate the logistics module beneath eNAM. So, just after payment, items can be cleared straight from the warehouse without the need of getting them to mandis,” said Swain.

He additional said that apart from the existing mandis on board eNAM, those people in Karnataka, Kerala and in Jammu & Kashmir will be extra shortly.

Growing coverage

Offering an update on the present standing of eNAM in the country, Swain said the coverage has achieved 585 marketplaces throughout sixteen States and two Union Territories, while 421 supplemental marketplaces are set to be lined.

At existing, a hundred and fifty commodities, which includes foods grains, oilseeds, cereals, fibres, vegetables and fruits, are traded on eNAM, which was inaugurated by Key Minister Narendra Modi on April fourteen, 2016. The quantity of commodities traded has improved from 85 through the start 12 months (FY17) to a hundred and fifty as on February 15, 2020.

The Joint Secretary additional mentioned that the quantity of e-trade on the system has witnessed a CAGR of 39 for every cent, while the benefit has grown 38 for every cent, from ₹880 crore in the start 12 months to ₹30,470 crore as of February 2020.
