Crop insurance claims for 2020-21 lower by over 60 per cent from previous year

There has been far more than 60 per cent drop in the crop insurance statements of farmers at Rs nine,570 crore below the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the 2020-21 crop yr from the past yr as there have been no significant crop losses, in accordance to formal information.

During the 2019-20 crop yr, about 501 lakh hectare was insured by 613 lakh farmers below the PMFBY with a full sum of Rs two,19,226 crore.

The statements claimed from Kharif season remained larger at Rs 21,496 crore, whilst from Rabi season at Rs 5,902 crore of the 2019-20 crop yr.

Utmost crop insurance statements have been claimed from Maharashtra at Rs six,757 crore, adopted by Madhya Pradesh at Rs 5,992 crore and Rajasthan at Rs 4,921 crore during 2020-21.
