Farmers urged to test seeds before sowing

The Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Foodgrains (CPS) Promoting Property S Rethinavelu has cautioned people today in opposition to accepting unsolicited seed packets from abroad, besides insisting upon them to have these seeds examined at laboratories for their efficacy prior to sowing.

Sensitising farmers about “seed terrorism”, Rethinavelu reported the Worldwide Seed Tests Agency (ISTA) has presently issued a warning about the penalties of sowing unsolicited seeds and the resultant effect on food generation, the distribute of crop disorders and similar well being and environmental challenges.

Having a cue from these warnings, the Tamilnadu Foodgrains (CPS) Promoting Property has built it obligatory for farmers to get the seeds examined in a laboratory prior to working with it for cultivation.

“This would not only enable keep away from yield loss but conserve the farmer and atmosphere as well,” he reported while cautioning on the selection of inter-crop, fencing crop and fodder crops.

“Farmers need to chorus from working with non-native seeds for fencing/ fodder crops as it could suppress the main crop,” Rethinavelu reported.
