Department of Agriculture Kashmir has been granted Certificate of Registration by Registrar of Geographical Indication, Chennai, Governing administration of India for Kashmiri saffron, as for each media studies.

The registered proprietor of the Kashmir saffron is Director Agriculture, Kashmir, facilitated by Sher-e-Kashmir College of Agricultural Sciences & Technologies SKUAST (K) and Saffron Investigate Station Dusso Pampore J&K.

Commenting on the achievement, Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi explained that Geographical Indication (GI) is a indication on goods that have a particular geographical origin and the product may possibly have specific high-quality or standing.

He explained the Geographic sign leads to the overall financial prosperity of the producers. He included that the primary intent of registering a geographic sign is to seek out protection for particular goods developed in a specific geographic area.

Talking about the advertising and marketing of any product acquiring GI Tag, the Director explained it can stimulate and motivate the entrepreneurs to broaden their business enterprise at a worldwide amount. The GI also boosts exports and can help the farmers to get the best remuneration for their financial sustainability.

He talked about that the J&K federal government applied GI of Kashmir saffron simply because of its special identification and exceptional high-quality as in contrast to saffron grown across the planet.

The department of agriculture in Kashmir applied to the Registrar, Geographical Registration Industry Chennai in December 2019 under Course thirty under the Fourth Agenda as for each Geographical Indications Policies 2002.

The requisite paperwork like the Statement of Circumstance, Emblem, Documentary Evidence, Specification and Description of G.I product, Listing of producers of Kashmir Saffron, Conventional Techniques adopted, and Technique of creation had been submitted to the Registrar, Geographical Registration.

On completion of the formalities, a Consultative Group was constituted by the Dy. Registrar Geographical Indications, Governing administration of India, for ascertaining the correctness of the particulars furnished by the Agriculture department in G.I application.

Kashmir’s agricultural department along with the involved officers and farmers attended a meeting in New Delhi, offered a PowerPoint presentation regarding many aspects of the Kashmir Saffron to determine the correctness of particulars furnished in the Statement of Circumstance in respect of G.I of Saffron.
